The second step of creating a product, or the second tab when editing a product is where you can set the departments that the product will be visible in.
All departments are listed in the left sorted according to rank and the structure you created when setting up your departments. The tree structure is represented by the levels of indentation and the number of preceding dashes
Select the departments that you want your product to appear in by clicking on the department on the left and clicking the arrow to move it into the right panel. You can use Ctrl + Click to move multiple departments at one time. If your product is already in a department it will be shown in red as you can see below.
We recommend that you specify one default department. This will be set at the canonical department which is important for SEO. All other places that the product appears will include a canonical link for the search engines that points back to the default department. This prevents your site from being penalized for having identical content in multiple places. This is particularly important if you are including the departments in the products file name.
When adding products to a department CommerceCM will automatically assign a rank of 10. If you are using rank based sorting in your departments you will want to adjust rank in the Department Manager.
If you are creating a new product, click Next to save your selections and move to the Cross Sales step.
If you are editing your product you can hit Done to save your changes and return to the product listing.
