We added a new control in 2017 that improves our support for Open Graph (OG) data. Merchants no longer need to use a 3rd party plugin like AddThis or similar.
OG is a tagging standard used by Facebook. It controls what is displayed when users share your products on Facebook and since Facebook is the 800 lb gorilla, most other social platforms use it too. I am not really sure why they couldn't just use traditional Meta tags, but no one asked me.
There are three key tags
Facebook only displays the first 300 characters of a description in a post and 110 characters if it is used in a comment so write your OG:Description tag accordingly.
These are controlled by LRM 's
lrmOpenGraph_DefaultDescription: This is used if the page does not have a default Meta-Description. lrmOpenGraph_DefaultTitle: This is rarely used because most pages/products will not let you launch if there is no Title. lrmOpenGraph_DefaultImage: This is used primarily on SiteCM pages. This is entered as a local path to a SiteCM Image that you can upload and manage (create a seasonal variant or a small ad even as long as you remember to update this later). It would be something similar to /sitecm/i/YOURLOGOFILE.JPG
This is the main place where the Default Image is used on CommerceCM sites which is why we recommend that you use your logo.
On Product pages, we use:
We also include og:type as "product"
On Department pages, we use:
NOTE: If your department template does not use department images the system will use the default OG image.
If your design is older than 2017 then there is a nominal charge to replace any existing hard coded values or conflicting controls.
