When creating a new product you will be taken through a number of pages. The steps may differ depending on the configuration of your CommerceCM site.
When editing an existing product, you will have an additional menu that allows you to jump to a specific page and update the data you are most interested in. Creating a new process is a linear process and you will be stepped through it by clicking the Next button at the bottom of the page.
The Product Foundation is the anchor of your product data and is common across all Languages and Currencies. This enables CommerceCM to ensure customers can be charged in the correct currency and allows shoppers to switch to their language of choice without having to leave the product page.
This will look a little different if you are setting up a single language site.
Name: This is how your product will be labelled on the site.
Hide From: Search and Site Map: Check these if you want to have stealth products. For example if you are creating promotional products to use as gifts with purchase or are working on new items. This prevents them from being returned in on-site search and they will not be included in the XML site map that CommerceCM generates. Your products will still show though and might be indexed by robots if they are active and on an active department.
Filename: Use this to set your product URL. They must be unique. Use keywords. No spaces (hyphens are ok).
Browser Title: This is used not only in the browser but also is used by search engines as the link to your product page. Make it descriptive and use keywords, but not too long. This is also used with your Open Graph data.
Search Engine Keywords: Not used by search engines anymore because they were too easy to manipulate and don't necessarily reflect the true content of the page. These are used by our on-site search index though so if you use alternate spellings or descriptors it can make your products easier to find.
Search Engine Description: Again this is not used as much by Google as it once was because they are darn good at indexing actual page content which is best for telling people what your page is about. It is important though as CommerceCM uses it as the description for Open Graph social shares.
Short Description: Not used by all sites. This is a text only field. Refer to your site documentation.
Long Description(s): Sites can have up to a handful of these as determined in the design phase. Refer to your your site documentation for clarification on how they are used on your site. The field will preview the content. To edit any tab, activate it to show the preview, then click Edit to open a pop up editor. When you have made your changes, click update, then click Done to save your changes and return to the Product Landing page, or Next to save your changes and move to the Department step of setting up a product.
